Juan Mata is Manchester United's player of the month for September

Juan Mata looked in good spirits after the Spanish playmaker was named Manchester United’s player of the month for September.

Mata started all six games during September, helping his Louis van Gaal’s side to five wins.

The former Chelsea playmaker scored againat Southampton, Sunderland and Wolfsburg, and his three assists included a backheeled flick to set up Chris Smalling for the winner against Wolfsburg.

Mata posted the picture above of himself with his latest award on his personal Instagram account and wrote: “Thanks to everyone! 🙌 @manchesterunited”

The Spaniard won the award after earning 44 per cent of the vote from fans on the club’s website, beating off competition from Anthony Martial (42 per cent), who also impressed in his first month at Old Trafford since his move from Monaco.

Smalling (16 per cent) came third after being nominated for the award for the second successive month.

United take on Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.
