Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea takes to Instagram after goalless derby
David De Gea says Manchester United were close to victory in the derby but couldn’t secure three points after a goalless draw with Manchester City.
The Red Devils were forced to settle for a point against the Premier League leaders after City goalkeeper Joe Hart made a string of saves to deny Chris Smalling and Jesse Lingard in the final 10 minutes.
De Gea, who was heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid in the summer transfer window, had just one save to make throughout a subdued derby at Old Trafford.
The United shot stopper took to Instagram on Sunday to thanks the home fans for their support and post his thoughts on the derby stalemate.
De Gea wrote on the photo-sharing app: “We were close but couldn’t win at the end! Amazing Old Trafford, as always! @manchesterunited”
The Red Devils are in fourth place and two points behind leaders City ahead of their trip to Crystal Palace in the Premier League next weekend.
