Antonio Valencia has hit back at his critics after the Manchester United midfielder’s below-par start to the season.

The Ecuador international has struggled to secure a first-team place in Louis van Gaal’s starting line-up following the £11.5m summer arrival of defender Matteo Darmian.

The South American struggled in a rare Champions League start earlier this month after his mistake helped Wolfsburg break the deadlock in United’s 2-1 win.

But Valencia came out with some fighting talk after he took to Twitter to silence his detractors.

The Ecuadorian, who can play in defence or midfield, was a second-half substitute in United’s 3-0 loss to bitter rivals Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday.

United dropped to third place in the table following their emphatic defeat, leaving Van Gaal’s side two points behind current Premier League leaders Manchester City.
