Nathaniel Clyne says he is thrilled to score his first Liverpool goal after the defender netted the winner in a 1-0 victory over Bournemouth on Wednesday night.

The England international was alert in the penalty area to finish from close ranger after Joao Carlos Teixeira’s back-heel attempt had left the Cherries defence in disarray.

Clyne’s first-half winner was enough to secure Liverpool’s progress into the Capital One Cup quarter-finals, and the Reds will face his former employers Southampton for a place in the last four.

And the 24-year-old full-back took to Instagram to reflect on a memorable night in his fledgling Liverpool career.

Clyne wrote on the photo-sharing app: “Happy to score my first goal for @liverpoolfc and glad to be in the next round of the cup!⚽️🔴”

The Liverpool star has already become a key part of the Reds side after having made 14 appearances in all competitions this season.

Clyne moved to the Merseyside outfit in a reported £12.5m deal from Southampton in the summer as the Reds continued their theme of poaching the Saints’ best players.
