Steven Gerrard remembers the first time he donned the Liverpool captain's armband

Steven Gerrard was feeling nostalgic on Thursday night.

It is all change at the midfielder’s former club Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp replaced Brendan Rodgers last week.

Gerrard played under the Northern Irishman for three seasons before he left for Major League Soccer outfit LA Galaxy in the summer transfer window.

Jordan Henderson succeeded Gerrard as Liverpool captain, although summer signing James Milner has deputized in the absence of the injured midfielder.

And 2005 Champions League winner remember the first time he was named Liverpool skipper by former manager Gerard Houllier in 15 October 2003.

Gerrard wrote on his Instagram page: “On this day 12 years ago …”

Gerrard captained the Reds to a 3-0 victory over Olimpija Ljubljana in his first game as the new Liverpool skipper.

The former England international succeeded retired Finland defender Sami Hyypia in the Liverpool captaincy role.
