Piers Morgan has told Arsenal to only offer Arsene Wenger a new contract if he guides the club to the Champions League or Premier League this season.

Reports in the British media have suggested that the Gunners are prepared to offer Wenger a new deal until the end of the 2018-19 season as reward for Arsenal moving top of the Premier League table with victory over Everton on Saturday evening.

However, celebrity fan and Arsenal shareholder Morgan feels that Arsenal should only reward the Frenchman with a fresh contract if he wins one of the two top club competitions this season.

Morgan tweeted on Sunday afternoon:

The outspoken Arsenal fan also dismissed comparisons between Wenger and former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

He added:

Arsenal take on Sheffield Wednesday in the fourth round of the League Cup on Tuesday, before travelling to Swansea City in the Premier League next weekend.
