Piers Morgan believes that Arsenal could have a chance of winning the Premier League this season – if they finish bottom of their Champions League group.

The Gunners face an uphill struggle to qualify for the knockout phase of Europe’s elite club competition after suffering consecutive defeats by Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiacos.

Arsene Wenger’s men will next take on Bayern Munich both home and away as they look to bounce back from their disappointing start to the European competition.

However, celebrity Arsenal fan and club shareholder Morgan feels that it would be better for the north London side to finish bottom of their group and not have to play in the Europa League.

Morgan told talkSPORT: “The sad reality is that this Champions League campaign is all but over.

“I think we will be beaten by Bayern Munich at least once, probably twice in the space of a couple of weeks, and that will be it.

“It will be the worst Champions League exit for a number of years for Arsenal and confirms my view that things are not as rosy as the Wenger-brigade would like to have it.

“But there is the point, that many Arsenal fans have found out, that we don’t want to finish third and end up in the Europa, a second tier competition.

“Actually, if we are out of that, we might have a chance of winning the Premier League.”

Arsenal are currently second in the Premier League table and two points behind leaders Manchester City after their impressive 3-0 win over Manchester United at The Emirates last weekend.

The Gunners take on Watford in their next top-flight game on 17 October.
