Roberto Martinez has warned his Everton side that Arsenal will not be suffering from a Champions League hangover when the Toffees travel to Emirates Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Gunners secured a thrilling 2-0 win over Bayern Munich in Europe’s elite club competition on Tuesday night to revive their hopes of reaching the last 16.

Everton have enjoyed a week off to prepare for their trip to north London in the wake of their 3-0 loss to Manchester United at Goodison Park last Saturday.

However, Martinez feels that Arsenal have more than enough strength in depth to be able to recover fully in time for this weekend’s showdown.

Martinez told a news conference on Thursday: “I wouldn’t say a team as experienced as Arsenal will suffer a hangover.

“When you play two games in a week, you hope it will allow us to be fresh but I don’t expect it to have a negative effect on Arsenal. They have a big enough squad to find fresh legs.”

Arsenal head into Saturday’s game knowing that victory over Everton would move them top of the Premier League table ahead of Sunday’s Manchester derby clash at Old Trafford. The Gunners are currently second, two points behind leaders City.
