Shanghai Masters: Andy Murray reflects on Novak Djokovic thrashing

Andy Murray is beaten 6-1 6-3 by Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals of Shanghai Masters

Andy Murray could not hide his disappointment after Novak Djokovic thrashed the British No1 6-1 6-3 to reach the final of the Shanghai Masters.

The 28-year-old failed to gain a foothold in the contest as world No1 Djokoic secured his place in his 13th consecutive ATP Tour final.

Djokovic will take on Jo-Wilfried Tsonga on Sunday after the Frenchman beat Rafael Nadal 6-4 0-6 7-5 in the other semi-final.

“Obviously I’m disappointed with the way I played. I served poorly in the first set especially,” Murray said.

“You can’t afford to do that against Novak with the way he’s playing just now with the amount of confidence he has in his game, and the conditions over here.”

Djokovic was naturally thrilled by the manner of his performance against the Scot.

“Whenever we play against each other, it’s always exciting. It’s always a huge challenge,” Djokovic said.

“But I was ready. I came in from the very first point with the right intensity, played great, on a very high level.”
