Simon Mignolet: How Jurgen Klopp has lifted Liverpool
Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet runs the rule over Reds manager Jurgen Klopp
Simon Mignolet says Jurgen Klopp’s enthusiasm has already rubbed off on the Liverpool squad.
The Reds played out a goalless draw with Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Saturday afternoon in Klopp’s first game in charge of the 18-time English champions.
He wants us to go 100 per cent and that positivity, enthusiasm and ambition is a positive for every individual
The 48-year-old head coach took over the reins at Anfield after he signed a three-year contract with Liverpool following the sacking of Brendan Rodgers earlier this month.
Mignolet, who was signed by Klopp’s predecessor in a £9m deal from Sunderland in 2013, lifted the lid on the impact that Klopp has already had on the Reds squad.
“As you can see he is very enthusiastic and very ambitious,” Mignolet told Liverpool’s website.
“On the line you can see that and it rubs off on the players. He is very positive and he wants everyone to go full blast, like he is as well. And that is good because it goes on to the young players and they can thrive on that.
“His sense of humour is different. It is not English, it is German. It’s nice and he’s a good man.
“Every manager has his own style and tactics and he worked hard this week to make sure we put them under pressure. He speaks with everybody and what is good is he gives people confidence.
“He wants us to go 100 per cent and that positivity, enthusiasm and ambition is a positive for every individual.”
Liverpool have collected 13 points from a possible 27 after nine Premier League games this season.
The Reds face Russian side Rubin Kazan in the Europa League on Thursday night before the Merseyside outfit welcome Southampton to Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Klopp’s side are tenth in the Premier League table.
