Sir Alex Ferguson believes that David De Gea is the best goalkeeper in the world along with Manuel Neuer.

The Spanish shot-stopper as established himself as one of Europe’s top talents between the posts since arriving at Old Trafford from Atletico Madrid in 2011 during Ferguson’s reign in charge at United.

And the former Manchester United boss feels that De Gea and Neuer are some way ahead of their rivals as the best shot-stoppers in world football.

Ex-Red Devils manager Ferguson told Kicker: “Neuer and De Gea are the best goalkeepers in the world.

“And by quite some distance as well. You have Messi and Ronaldo as outfield players and then Neuer and De Gea as the goalkeepers’ equivalent.”

De Gea has been a regular fixture in Louis van Gaal’s first-team since his proposed move to Real Madrid fell through before the close of the summer transfer window.
