Thierry Henry has heaped praise on Mesut Ozil, describing the Arsenal playmaker as an “amazing” player and backing him to help fire the Gunners to a title challenge.

The 27-year-old continued his fine start to the season on Saturday as he set up Olivier Giroud’s opener in Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Everton at Emirates Stadium.

Ozil has already notched up seven assists in the top flight to help Arsenal move top of the Premier League table.

And Arsenal legend Henry has been thoroughly impressed by what he has seen from the former Real Madrid star in recent weeks.

Henry said on Sky Sports: “He is an amazing player, a World Cup winner, and you have to give him credit because I think this year he has woken up.

“Sometimes you have to say when it is bad, it is bad.

“At the moment he is on point, and it’s not a coincidence that Arsenal are top of the league as it stands.”

Ozil has started nine of Arsenal’s 10 Premier League games so far this season.

Arsenal take on Sheffield Wednesday in the fourth round of the League Cup on Tuesday night.

The Gunners are currently a point ahead of Manchester City heading into Sunday’s Manchester derby clash at Old Trafford.
