Thierry Henry is backing Arsenal to mount a serious challenge for the Premier League title this season.

The Gunners have recovered from their opening weekend defeat by West Ham United to move up to second place in the table and level on points with leaders Manchester City after 10 games.

Arsene Wenger is looking to guide Arsenal to their first title since Henry helped fire the Gunners to the top flight crown in 2003-04.

And despite admitting that he initially had doubts about Arsenal’s ability to challenge this season, former Gunner Henry feels that the north London side have already proved their doubters wrong.

Ex-forward Henry told Sky Sports: “At the beginning of the season, it wasn’t looking like the start they wanted to have.

“Man City looked to be running away with it, but suddenly they’ve started to get it together and are performing. The performances against Manchester United and Bayern Munich were great, then they showed they can do it on a daily basis against Everton.

“It wasn’t flamboyant Arsenal, but they still managed to win the game. Can they win the league? I think they can.”

Arsenal take on Sheffield Wednesday in the fourth round of the League Cup on Tuesday night before returning to Premier League action with a trip to Swansea City in the top flight next weekend.

The Gunners beat Everton 2-0 at Emirates Stadium last weekend.
