Thierry Henry: Why Chelsea must stick with Jose Mourinho
Thierry Henry urges Chelsea to stand by Jose Mourinho despite the Blues' poor start to the season
Thierry Henry has told Chelsea that sacking Jose Mourinho would be a mistake and urged the west London club to stick by the Portuguese coach.
The Portuguese coach has found himself under intense pressure in recent weeks and watched his side slump to their fifth defeat in 10 games as they lost 2-1 to West Ham United at Upton Park on Saturday.
Reports in the British media have claimed that Mourinho could be sacked by the west London club if the Blues lose to Liverpool in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge on Saturday lunchtime.
However, former Arsenal striker Henry feels that the Blues should stick by their manager and says that Mourinho’s track record speaks for itself.
Henry told Sky Sports News: “They are still the champions. I think they’ll bounce back. I don’t think Mourinho leaving the club would be a smart move but you never know nowadays.
“You have to give him the respect about what he’s achieved in the game. People forget that he won the treble with Inter Milan. Wherever he’s been, he’s won things.
“This is one of the first times he’s had to deal with a crisis at a club. I think he’s smart enough to deal with it. He has the team and the experience to recover.
“Let’s not forget what he’s achieved at Porto, at Inter Milan, at Real Madrid. It’s amazing.”
Defending champions Chelsea head into Saturday’s clash with Liverpool in west London in 15th place in the Premier League table and 11 points behind leaders Manchester City after just 10 games.
