Ander Herrera has underlined his belief that Louis van Gaal is the right person to bring success to Manchester United, despite admitting that the Dutchman can be “very demanding”.

The Red Devils secured a 2-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford on Saturday to leave them in fourth place in the Premier League table and two points behind leaders and bitter local rivals Manchester City after 12 games.

Van Gaal successfully led United to a top-four finish in his first season in charge at the club and is hoping his side can challenge for the top-flight title this term.

And although Herrera admits that Van Gaal can be stern at times, the Spaniard is convinced that the former Bayern Munich boss is the man to bring success to Old Trafford in the coming seasons.

Herrera told Catalunya Radio: “He’s a very demanding person, very forward and very sincere, which I value a lot.

“To [the media], he might seem a bit tough, but I think he’s a good guy and I think he wants what’s best for the club.

“On a personal level, I have a very good relationship with him. I know he can look tough from outside the club, but from within, he’s the right guy to help us improve.”

United return to Premier League action with a trip to Watford after the international break on 21 November.
