Arsenal’s Arsene Wenger reveals admiration for Premier League star
Arsene Wenger admits that he has been thoroughly impressed by Jamie Vardy's form for Leicester this season
Arsene Wenger has revealed his admiration for Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy following the forward’s stunning start to the season in the Premier League.
The 28-year-old striker equalled a Premier League record on Saturday when he scored against Newcastle United as he netted for the 10th successive top-flight game.
Vardy has scored 13 goals and notched up one assist in 13 Premier League games for City to help them move one point clear at the top of the table over the weekend.
Celebrity Arsenal fan Piers Morgan suggested on Sunday that Wenger should consider a January swoop for the in-form forward.
And Wenger did little to quell speculation of a possible bid to sign the forward when he addressed the media at Arsenal’s London Colney training ground on Monday afternoon.
Asked about Vardy, Wenger told the gathered media: “It’s absolutely fantastic.
“It is not a miracle, because that is a consequence of his quality. The miracle is that he played at Fleetwood and that he didn’t play in the Premier League before.”
Arsenal take on Dynamo Zagreb in the Champions League at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday as they look to return to winning ways after their 2-1 loss to West Brom at the weekend.
