Ian Wright has admitted that he is a keen admirer of Mousa Dembele after the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder’s combative performance in Sunday’s north London derby.

The Belgium international earned plenty of praise for his display as Spurs earned a 1-1 draw against their bitter local rivals at Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

And Arsenal legend Wright was left impressed by the midfielder’s performance against Arsene Wenger’s men, as he helped Spurs dominate for much of the game.

Wright told BBC Sport: “I was watching Dembele [on Sunday] and when you look into that midfield, he is a monster in there. He’s so big and so strong and you have to take into account his physicality.

“He’s just going round it normally. People might see it as a foul in their eyes, he’s just going about his business.

“Maybe he walks the line, because he’s big, and strong, not gangly but if you get in his space you feel you could get knocked out of the way.”

The 28-year-old Dembele has been a regular fixture in the Tottenham team so far this season and has scored two goals in nine Premier League appearances for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

He has also scored once in two Europa League games for the Lilywhites so far this season.

Sunday’s draw left Spurs fourth in the Premier League table heading into the international break, while Arsenal remained level on points with leaders Manchester City.
