Eamon Dunphy has criticised the performances of Santi Cazorla and Mesut Ozil after Arsenal’s 5-1 defeat by Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.

The Germany international appeared to have cancelled out Robert Lewandowski’s opener but the Arsenal midfielder’s effort was ruled out for handball at Allianz Arena.

Thomas Muller went on to score a brace, whilst David Alaba and Arjen Robben sealed three points for Pep Guardiola’s men in emphatic fashion in the Group F clash.

And former Manchester United midfielder Dunphy wasn’t impressed with Ozil’s application against Bayern, despite the £42.5m signing completing the match with a 94 per cent pass competition.

“Ozil doesn’t really put a shift in any week,” Dunphy told Irish television channel RTE.“He didn’t tonight.”

Ozil has played an important role in Arsenal’s recent title charge after a return of six assists and one goal in five Premier League games.

The former Republic of Ireland international was also heavily critical of Cazorla after Arsenal’s heavy defeat in Munich.

“Cazorla is a player who is really comfortable on the ball, a good passer of the ball, a really good playmaker.

“But when he has to sweat and put a shift in…”

Arsenal face Tottenham Hotspur in the north London derby at The Emirates on Sunday afternoon.
