Arsenal transfers: Arsene Wenger hints at January spending plan

Arsene Wenger insists that he is prepared to spend money for Arsenal as the January transfer window approaches

Arsene Wenger has hinted that he is ready to splash the cash in January as he considers bolstering his Arsenal squad to sustain a serious title challenge.

The Frenchman was criticised for failing to sign an outfield player during the summer transfer window as he opted to only bring in goalkeeper Petr Cech from Chelsea.

Arsenal have inevitably been linked with a host of players in recent days as the January transfer window looms large.

The speculation has increased further following the news that Arsenal will be without midfielder Francis Coquelin for at least 12 weeks due to a knee injury.

Wenger watched his Arsenal side keen their Champions League hopes alive with a 3-0 win over Dynamo Zagreb at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night.

And the Frenchman was asked about his reputation for being reluctant to spend money on transfers in his post-match news conference.

Wenger said: “I don’t agree with you. If you come out with me, you will see I like to spend money!

“It is you the press that have given me that reputation but my friends don’t think that.”
