Arsenal transfers: Roma discuss Wojciech Szczesny’s future
Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini says the Serie A side want to keep on-loan Wojciech Szczesny
Roma want to make Wojciech Szczesny’s move to the Italian capital permanent, according to Walter Sabatini.
The Arsenal shot stopper moved to the Italian top-flight from the north London side after Arsene Wenger signed four-time Premier League winner Petr Cech in an £11m deal from defending champions Chelsea in the summer.
Szczesny has already impressed for Roma after keeping three clean sheets in nine Serie A appearances, helping Rudi Garcia’s side to keep pace with leaders Fiorentina and Inter Milan.
The Poland international has admitted that it would be his dream to return to Arsenal in the future despite a lack of first-team opportunities at the FA Cup holders.
And Roma sporting director Sabatini underlined the Serie A club’s desire to land Szczesny on a permanent deal.
“We are working on it and would like to keep Szczesny, but knowing Arsenal it will be difficult to achieve that,” Sabatini is quoted as saying by Goal.com.
“In any case, Roma are already covered in that role for next season. Who did we get? I would never tell you that!”
Szczesny made 181 appearances for the north London side during a six-season spell in the Arsenal first-team.
The Roma goalkeeper has represented Poland on 23 occasions, keeping 11 clean sheets.
