Philipp Lahm heaps praise on Mesut Ozil ahead of Arsenal's trip to Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday
Philipp Lahm has described Mesut Ozil as the “most intelligent” player he has ever lined up with a the pair prepare to go head-to-head in Wednesday’s Champions League clash between Arsenal and Bayern Munich.
The pair are international team-mates and helped Germany win the World Cup in Brazil together last year but will be on opposing teams at the Allianz Arena this week.
Ozil has enjoyed a sparkling start to the new season and notched up his eighth and ninth assists of the campaign as Arsenal ran out 3-0 winners at Swansea City at the weekend.
Lahm admits that he is a keen admirer of the former Real Madrid star and believes that the 27-year-old playmaker is probably the most intelligent player in Europe at present.
Lahm told a news conference on Tuesday: “Mesut is probably the most intelligent player I have ever played with, he is probably the most intelligent player in Europe today.
“Mesut sees things only he can – his vision is as good as I have ever seen.
“People don’t necessarily understand his game, he isn’t there to run at players or even beat them, he is far more intelligent than that.
“He finds space and creates chances for his teammates, and you only need to look at the assist table to understand there is nobody better than him at that.”
Ozil joined Arsenal in a club record transfer deal from Real Madrid back in the summer of 2013 and has helped the north London side win back to back FA Cup titles.
