Bastian Schweinsteiger sends message to Man United fans about Louis van Gaal
Bastian Schweinsteiger says Manchester United are still developing under manager Louis van Gaal
Bastian Schweinsteiger has told Manchester United fans to be patient as Louis van Gaal looks to implement his footballing philosophy at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have come in for plenty of criticism in recent weeks for their unadventurous style of play, with Van Gaal’s men being held to three successive goalless draws before their win over CSKA Moscow in the Champions League last week.
United returned to winning ways in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford.
And Schweinsteiger, who has been a regular fixture in Van Gaal’s first team since joining the club from Bayern Munich over the summer, feels that it will take time for United to fully adapt to the Dutchman’s regime.
Schweinsteiger told United’s website: “I recognise similarities between Louis van Gaal here and at Bayern Munich,” Schweinsteiger said. “In Munich, it took a while before the team understood exactly how we wanted to play football. But in the end we won the Bundesliga title and made it to the Champions League final.
“You have to be patient. But, of course, during that you have to win, you have to get results and you have to score. I think we are in a good way. We can improve but the team spirit here is great.
“It is not about October or November – it is about May. I am sure Louis will bring success to United. I am convinced that will happen but we have to do our work and we have to improve.”
United, who are fourth in the table, return to Premier League action with a trip to Watford after the international break on Saturday 21 November.
