Belgium boss responds to Eden Hazard Chelsea exit talk
Marc Wilmots rejects suggestions that he has encouraged Eden Hazard to leave Chelsea and join Real Madrid
Marc Wilmots has rubbished suggestions that he has encouraged Eden Hazard to leave Chelsea and join Real Madrid.
Hazard, like most of his Chelsea team-mates this season, has struggled to find consistent form and is yet to score for Jose Mourinho’s men this term.
The Belgian playmaker has long been touted as a possible target for Real Madrid, speculation which has intensified since Chelsea’s stuttering start to the season.
Reports earlier in the season suggested that Wilmots had been encouraging Hazard to seek a move away from Stamford Bridge.
However, the Belgium boss has emphatically rejected those suggestions, insisting that he has no say in Hazard’s club career.
Wilmots told a news conference on Tuesday: “Eden is old enough to make his choices. I do not need to intervene there.”
Hazard played the full 90 minutes as Chelsea slumped to their seventh Premier League defeat of the season against Stoke City on Saturday afternoon.
That result left the Blues 16th in the table and just three points above the relegation zone.
