Charlie Nicholas is tipping Liverpool to secure a 2-0 victory over Bordeaux in the Europa League on Thursday night.

The Reds host the Ligue 1 outfit at Anfield looking to build on their impressive 4-1 thrashing of Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

Daniel Sturridge could be in line to make his first appearance for Liverpool since Jurgen Klopp became manager, with the striker having been sidelined with a knee injury.

And Nicholas is confident that the Merseyside outfit will have too much for the French side at Anfield on Thursday night.

Nicholas told Sky Sports: “Liverpool have some great momentum but the problem is it’s been one-step forward then one backwards since Jurgen Klopp took charge.

“Now they’ve taken another big step forward and Klopp will be tempted to stick with the same team to a degree and build on that momentum. However, he’ll also want to give Daniel Sturridge an hour and also get some more minutes in Christian Benteke.

“I hope he tries them as a strike duo with Roberto Firmino in behind to see what he’s got there.

“Firmino is working hard but he’s not at the same level of Philippe Coutinho, who looks like he’ll miss out but be back for the weekend. If that works then he’s suddenly got a couple of exciting options to work with.”

Liverpool will make it to the Europa League round of 32 with a victory on Thursday night. The Reds’ record in 13 home games against French sides is W10 D1 L2.

Bordeaux, meanwhile, have won only one of their 11 fixtures against English clubs (W1 D3 L7) and have lost all five of their games in England without scoring.
