Charlie Nicholas is tipping Arsenal to win the Premier League title this season – because the Gunners have already had to cope with a severe injury crisis.

Arsene Wenger’s side have had a number of first-team players out of action in recent weeks, with Francis Coquelin now sidelined for at least two months after suffering a medial knee ligament injury at the weekend.

The north London side missed the chance to move top of the Premier League table at the weekend as they slumped to a 2-1 loss to West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns.

That result left Wenger’s men in fourth place in the table but just two points behind leaders Leicester City after 13 games.

And despite Arsenal having dropped points at the weekend, former Gunners Nicholas feels that the north Londoners are the favourites to win the title and their first top-flight crown since 2004.

Nicholas told Sky Sports: “Leicester can’t keep this going and Manchester United, for me, are going to find themselves in trouble soon with all the situations they’re getting themselves in.

“Some people might criticise the Premier League quality this season but this is the most exciting and unpredictable one I can remember. Nobody right now will pick the same top four. It goes from one dramatic situation to the next – continuing with Leicester taking on United this weekend.

“Whatever happens, it’s just a brilliant season and there’s so many fantastic conversations to be had and so many interesting angles. From Jamie Vardy’s phenomenal form to Jose Mourinho’s nightmare start to the season.

“As it stands I’m sticking with Arsenal. The reason is because they’ve already had to cope with the losses they’ve had, with so many injuries. Arsenal will get more players back soon and then we’ll see what they’ve got.”

Arsenal travel to Norwich City in the Premier League on Sunday.
