Didier Drogba backs Petr Cech to lead Arsenal to Premier League title

Didier Drogba tips Petr Cech to inspire Arsenal to Premier League title

Didier Drogba has backed Arsenal to win the Premier League title this season.

The Gunners are in fourth place but just two points behind leaders Leceister City after a surprise 2-1 loss to West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon.

The defeat was Arsenal’s first in the Premier League since a 2-0 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in September, but the Gunners can make amends with victory over Norwich City at Carrow Road on Sunday.

Drogba’s former Chelsea team-mate Petr Cech completed an £11m move to Arsenal from the defending Premier League champions in the summer after his fourth title success at the west London side.

And the Chelsea legend is backing Cech to inspire Arsene Wenger’s men to their first Premier League crown since 2004.

Drogba told Sky Sports: “I think Manchester City will be as strong as they have been in the last few years.

“Unfortunately Chelsea are too far [behind in the title race], so I will go for my friend Petr Cech at Arsenal.”

Asked if Arsenal are strong enough to sustain a title challenge, Drogba replied: “They’ve got Petr Cech.”

Arsenal have won eight of their 13 Premier League games this season.
