Chelsea legend points finger at Eden Hazard and Diego Costa

Gianfranco Zola has not been impressed by Eden Hazard and Diego Costa's form for Chelsea this season

Gianfranco Zola believes that Eden Hazard and Diego Costa must shoulder a large portion of the blame for Chelsea’s disastrous start to the new season.

The Blues slumped to their seventh Premier League defeat of the season on Saturday evening as they were beaten 1-0 by Stoke City to leave them in 16th place in the table and just three points above the relegation zone.

Hazard and Costa have – like most of their Blues team-mates – have failed to find consistent form this season after the pair played crucial roles in helping Chelsea win the title at a canter last term.

And Chelsea club legend Zola believes that the pair’s stuttering form has played a big role in the struggles of Jose Mourinho’s men this season.

Zola is quoted as saying by Goal: “There is one compelling reason for the poor start to the season. The poor form of key offensive players Eden Hazard and Diego Costa has not helped.

“Defensively as well the team has dropped the standards set last year so the players have lost confidence as a group and this has led to poor results. The club has it in them to turn around their fortunes.”
