Nemanja Matic has insisted that Chelsea are paying no attention to their position in the Premier League table following their latest top-flight defeat.

Matic was unable to prevent the Blues from slipping to their seventh league loss of the season on Saturday evening as they were defeated 1-0 by Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium.

The result left the west London side down in 16th place in the Premier League table and just three points above the relegation zone after 12 games.

However, midfielder Matic insists that Chelsea still fully believe in their qualities and are not worrying about their position in the English top flight.

Matic is quoted as saying by the Sunderland Echo: “I think we deserve more. We are not used to being in this position.

“But we don’t look at the table because last year when we were champions, we just tried to take it game by game and wait for Manchester City to drop points. The table is not realistic now.”

Chelsea return to Premier League action after the international break with a home clash against Norwich City at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues will be looking to return to winning ways after losing their last three games in the Premier League, as well as being dumped out of the League Cup by Stoke City.
