Christian Benteke says Liverpool deserved three points after Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The Reds fell behind in the seventh minute after Chelsea midfielder Ramires guided a header past goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

However, Brazil international Philippe Coutinho levelled for the visitors on the stroke of half-time with a brilliant individual goal.

The 23-year-old edged Liverpool into a second-half lead before substitute Benteke completed an impressive victory for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Benteke told Liverpool’s website: “We deserved the three points.

“We didn’t start like we wanted but after our first goal, in the second half, we controlled the game and deserved to win at Stamford Bridge.”

The Belgium international has scored four goals in seven Premier League appearances for Liverpool.

Benteke moved to Liverpool in a £32.5m deal from Aston Villa in the summer transfer window.

The Reds striker became the club’s second most-expensive signing behind England and West Ham striker Andy Carroll.

Liverpool face Rubin Kazan in the Europa League mid-week before a home clash against Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
