Cristiano Ronaldo has reiterated that he doesn’t have any rivals in football.

The Real Madrid forward is one of the favourites to win the Ballon d’Or in January after another spectacular year for the 30-year-old that has seen the Portugal international become Real Madrid’s record goal-scorer.

He’s a happy boy and he understands that his daddy plays for Real Madrid and wants to win all the time. He’s an unbelievable boy – he’s smart and appreciates good players

Ronaldo is bidding to equal Lionel Messi’s record of four Ballon d’Or successes, although the Argentina international is the favourite after he helped Barcelona win La Liga, Copa del Rey and the Champions League last season.

In the Madrid star’s new documentary, Ronaldo, the former Manchester United man and his son, Cristiano Junior, is filmed meeting his nemesis Messi ahead of the 2014 Ballon d’Or awards.

Much to Ronaldo’s amusement, his son is lost for words as Messi comes over to his Madrid rival, highlighting the thawing of relations between the world’s two greatest players.

“I don’t have rivals in football,” Ronaldo said.

Speaking at his media conference ahead of Monday’s premiere of Ronaldo, the reigning Ballon d’Or winner added that his son Cristiano is free to decide his favourite players without pressure from his famous father.

“Cristiano appreciates good players, like his dad (smiles),” Ronaldo added. “He’s a smart boy, very intelligent – but he doesn’t speak only about Messi, he speaks about everyone, James [Rodriguez], Pepe, [Fabio] Coentrao, Neymar… because he has good eyes and he knows who is a good player.

“He plays football and he knows. I’m never going to say to him: ‘don’t follow this one or this one’. If he likes it, I have to respect [him] because it’s his choice.

“He’s a happy boy and he understands that his daddy plays for Real Madrid and wants to win all the time. He’s an unbelievable boy – he’s smart and appreciates good players.”

Ronaldo was unable to help Real Madrid avoid a 3-2 loss to Sevilla in La Liga on Sunday night.

RONALDO is in cinemas for one night only on 9 November, and also available on DVD, BD and Digital download the same day.
