Cristiano Ronaldo: I have a great passion about Man United
Cristiano Ronaldo discusses his connection with Manchester United as he continues to be linked with a sensational return to Old Trafford
Cristiano Ronaldo has admitted that he has a “great passion” about Manchester United as the Real Madrid superstar continues to be linked with a sensational transfer back to Old Trafford.
The Portugal captain has regularly spoken about his affection for United since leaving the club to join Real Madrid in a world-record deal back in 2009.
With Manchester United I have a great passion
Ronaldo has been touted as a possible transfer target for Louis van Gaal’s side in recent weeks amid reports that he is considering his future at Real Madrid.
Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be keen on luring the 30-year-old to Ligue 1 should he leave The Bernabeu.
The forward’s move to United from Sporting Lisbon back in August 2003 is one of the central themes in the three-time Ballon d’Or winner’s new documentary, RONALDO.
And Ronaldo admits that Sir Alex Ferguson’s promise that he would play 50 per cent of United’s games in his first season at the Premier League club helped to convince him that the move was the right decision.
“As I’ve said many times, with Manchester United I have a great passion. I say that every time,” said Ronaldo, speaking at news conference in central London on Monday to mark the release of the documentary.
“What Jorge [Mendes] did for me, at 18 years old, to put me into one of the best clubs of the world with the word of Sir Alex Ferguson, it was kind of a dream.
“To play at Sporting and to move to Manchester was like: ‘wow’.
“It was great because Jorge gave me his word and Sir Alex gave me his word, and I respect the people who tell me something and it happens.
“These guys will be family with for the rest of my life because they are people who I trust, like and love.
“Of course, when Sir Alex Ferguson told me I’m going to play 50 per cent of the games, it made me feel comfortable. I thought: ‘wow, at 18 years old to play 50 per cent of the games is unbelievable’. The last word of Sir Alex Ferguson was the key in signing for Manchester United.”
RONALDO is in cinemas for one night only on 9 November, and also available on DVD, BD and Digital download the same day.
