The Czech Republic have secured their fourth Fed Cup title in five years after winning a dramatic decisive doubles rubber against Russia.
With the tie level at 1-1 heading into Sunday’s play, Maria Sharapova put Russia 2-1 up with a 3-6 6-4 6-2 win over Petra Kvitova.
Karolina Pliskova then Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova to level proceedings, before Pliskova and Barbora Strycova beat Elena Vesnina and Pavlyuchenkova 4-6 6-3 6-2 to secure a thrilling 3-2 win for the Czechs.
“It’s the first experience for me in the Fed Cup so I’m really happy how we made it and we both played really good,” said Pliskova.
“It’s definitely one of the biggest wins in my career. I was trying to focus on my serve and it was working so I’m really happy for that.”
