David Moyes sends warning to Man United fans over Louis van Gaal
David Moyes warns that it will take some time for Manchester United to restore themselves as a dominant football force
David Moyes has urged Manchester United fans to be patient with new manager Louis van Gaal as the Dutchman looks to restore the Red Devils to the pinnacle of English football.
Van Gaal was appointed as Moyes’ successor at Old Trafford following the Scot’s doomed reign at the club after Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.
The Dutchman successfully led the Red Devils back into the Champions League by guiding them to a fourth-placed finish last season.
There are still questions marks about whether United are capable of mounting and sustaining a serious Premier League title challenge this season.
And former Red Devils boss Moyes, who was sacked by Real Sociedad this month, says it will take some time before United can consider themselves as a dominant force in English football.
Moyes is quoted as saying by Sky Sports: “Whoever is manager was going to find it difficult and I think they are going to find it difficult for quite a period to come as well.
“Following Sir Alex and the success he had over numerous years was going to be hard for anybody to follow. It was difficult for me. I was only in very quickly, I think it is a bigger job – it is a longer term job.
“I don’t think it’s a short-term job to get Manchester United back.”
United head into Saturday’s Premier League clash with Liverpool in fourth place in the table and two points off top spot.
