Daniel Sturridge: This Liverpool star to blame for injury setback
Daniel Sturridge jokingly says he blames Jordon Ibe for his recent knee problem before this week's foot setback
Daniel Sturridge has pointed the finger at Jordon Ibe for causing the Liverpool striker’s knee injury earlier this season.
The England international hasn’t featured for the Reds since new manager Jurgen Klopp took over the reins at Anfield following October’s Merseyside derby.
Sturridge’s last Liverpool appearance came at Goodison Park before he picked up a knee injury in training which has kept him sidelined, then he complained of a problem with his foot ahead of a return to action this week.
And the 26-year-old revealed that he believes a collision with Ibe resulted in his knee problem, although the England Under-21 forward denies any involvement.
“I mean he tries to claim it wasn’t him. We both know,” Sturridge told SoccerAM.
“But banter aside that’s my brother. There’s unfortunate incidents that occur in training, It’s what it is. It’s a game situation on the training pitch.”
Sturridge missed Liverpool’s 4-1 victory over Manchester City at Etihad Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
He scored a brilliant brace in a 3-2 victory over Aston Villa at Anfield in September.
The Reds forward moved to Liverpool in a £12m deal from defending Premier League champions Chelsea in January 2013.
The England man will hope to feature against Swansea City at Anfield next weekend.
