Defender launches stinging attack on Jose Mourinho after Chelsea exit
Former Chelsea defender Filipe Luis criticises Jose Mourinho for the way he has handled himself in the spotlight
Filipe Luis has launched a scathing attack on Jose Mourinho about the way the Chelsea boss handles the media.
The Portuguese coach has found himself under intense pressure at Stamford Bridge this season after watching his Chelsea side slump to their seventh Premier League defeat of the season at Stoke City last weekend.
Mourinho’s side are currently languishing down in 16th place in the top flight table and just three points above the relegation zone.
And Luis, who played under Mourinho last season and helped Chelsea win the title and the League Cup before sealing a return to Atletico Madrid in the summer, was not impressed by the way Mourinho handled himself in the public domain.
Luis told Yahoo Sport: “He has his way of talking to the press, especially when the team loses, which can sometimes be damaging to certain players.
“Some players benefit from criticism but for others they don’t.”
Luis also insisted that he looks back fondly on his season-long spell at Chelsea, despite being limited to just 15 Premier League appearances for the west London club.
The defender continued: “I consider my time with Chelsea a personal triumph. In one year I won two titles – one being the Premier League.
“I have a trophy at home that not many people have and in possibly the most competitive league in the world.”
