Former Chelsea defender backs Liverpool’s Alexandre Pato agreement
Mario Melchiot believes Alexandre Pato would complement Liverpool stars Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino
Alexandre Pato would complement Liverpool’s Brazilian duo Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino, says former Chelsea defender Mario Melchiot.
According to Corinthians president Robero de Andrade, the Reds have agreed a deal in principle to sign the former AC Milan striker, although Liverpool are thought to have some details to finalise.
However, the Brazilian club have since rubbished talk of an agreement with Liverpool for the sale of the South American forward.
Pato’s touted move to the Merseyside outfit received a mixed reception from some Liverpool supporters on Twitter after the 26-year-old returned to Brazil from Serie A side AC Milan in 2013.
However, former Chelsea defender Melchiot believes Liverpool are onto a good thing with Pato, appearing to point out that the striker could develop an understanding with Coutinho and Firmino.

Pato scored 63 times in 150 appearances in all competitions from Milan during a six-season stay at San Siro.
The Brazilian was part of the Milan side that won Serie A and Supercoppa Italiana in 2011.
The Liverpool target has netted 19 times in 59 games for Corinthians.
