Former Chelsea midfielder Pat Nevin runs rule over Tottenham star Dele Alli
Pat Nevin says Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli is a star for the present.
The 19-year-old midfielder was named man of the match after an influential performance in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Arsenal in the north London derby at Emirates Stadium.
He is absolutely one for the future for them – and probably as one for the present as well
Alli has enjoyed a whirlwind start to his Spurs career after the recently-capped England international moved to White Hart Lane in a £5m deal from MK Dons.
And former Chelsea midfielder Nevin praised Alli for grabbing hold of his opportunity to impress for Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the absence of injured Ryan Mason.
“You knows it’s going to work for him. If he plays like that and he looks that comfortable on the ball, you’re just going to have to go for it,” Nevin told Newstalk’s Off The Ball.
“He is the kinda guy who really wants to get the opportunity.
“He is absolutely one for the future for them – and probably as one for the present as well.”
Alli has scored two times in 11 Premier League games for the north London side this season.
The 19-year-old rangy midfielder has also made four appearances in this term’s Europa League.
Alli received his first England call-up last month for their games against Estonia and Lithuania.
Roy Hodgson has included Alli in his Three Lions squad for their upcoming friendlies against Spain and France.
