John Arne Riise says Dejan Lovren is showing signs of improvement after Liverpool’s 4-1 win at Manchester City at The Etihad.

The Croatia international was restored to Jurgen Klopp’s line-up after Mamadou Sakho suffered a knee injury in Liverpool’s final game before the recent international break.

The Reds eased to victory thanks to Eliaquim Mangala’s own goal and efforts from Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Martin Skrtel at The Etihad.

But former Liverpool defender John Arne Riise reserved special praise for much-maligned Lovren despite an edgy performance against Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

Mangala’s seventh-minute own goal set the Reds on their way before Coutinho and Firmino edged Liverpool into a 3-0 lead after 32 minutes.

City striker Sergio Aguero did offer some hope for the Citizens before half-time with a fine finish but Skrtel sealed three points with an 81st-minute volley.
