Phil Neville says he always knew Ross Barkley would be an Everton star.

The England international has made an impressive start to the season for Roberto Martinez’s side after a return of three goals and three assists in 12 Premier League appearances.

Barkley has been linked with a £50m move to defending Premier League champions Chelsea in the January transfer window, whilst Manchester United have also been linked with the playmaker.

Former Everton defender Neville witnessed Barkley progress in the youth ranks as a player and a coach, and the Valencia coach is a big fan of the Toffees midfielder.

The 21-year-old Everton playmaker has scored 13 times in 107 appearances in all competitions for the Merseyside outfit.

Barkley has already earned 17 caps for England, scoring his first senior goal in a 6-0 victory over San Marino in September.
