Former Tottenham star hails ‘strong and imposing’ Mousa Dembele
Former Spurs man Garth Crooks singles out Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele for special praise
Garth Crooks has heaped praise on Tottenham Hotspur’s “strong and imposing” Mousa Dembele following Sunday’s north London derby.
The Belgium international continued his rich vein of form with an influential performance in the heart of Tottenham’s midfield in a 1-1 draw with Arsenal at Emirates Stadium.
I must say to see Tottenham and, in particular, Dembele run Arsenal ragged was a bit of a shock
Dembele finished with a pass success rate of 88 per cent after 44 accurate passes, while the 27-year-old won seven tackles and made five dribbles in a versatile display.
And former Tottenham striker Crooks explained why Dembele made his Premier League team of the week following his north London derby performance on Sunday afternoon.
Crooks told BBC Sport: “What a performance by Dembele – I thought he was brilliant against Arsenal.
“He looked strong and imposing on the ball and covered every blade of grass. I know that Bayern Munich softened Arsenal up in the Champions League in midweek, but Spurs played in the Europa League the day after so I’m not totally clear why the Gunners lacked puff.
“I must say to see Tottenham and, in particular, Dembele run Arsenal ragged was a bit of a shock. It must be a cause for concern for Arsene Wenger if they are, as so many people keep telling me, genuine title contenders.”
Dembele had scored in three successive games for Tottenham before a 1-1 draw with Arsenal on Sunday.
Harry Kane broke the deadlock for Tottenham in the 32nd minute after he beat the offside trap and slotted past Petr Cech.
However, Kieran Gibbs levelled for the hosts with 13 minutes remaining at The Emirates.
