France boss delivers injury update on Man United’s Anthony Martial
Didier Deschamps says that Anthony Martial's injury does not look too serious
Didier Deschamps has played down fears surrounding Anthony Martial’s fitness after the striker was forced off with an ankle injury during France’s 2-0 loss to England on Tuesday night.
Martial started the international friendly clash at Wembley but was substituted in the 67th minute after sustaining the problem.
However, the France boss played down the significance of the problem after the game and suggested that Martial had only suffered a minor injury, despite the forward being in significant pain following the final whistle.
Martial was spotted leaving the ground on crutches.
However, Deschamps told his post-match news conference: “He was in quite a bit of pain after the match.
“He got a kick in the penalty area. I think it’s just a knock rather than anything else to the top of his foot.”
Goals from Dele Alli and Wayne Rooney wrapped up victory for the hosts on an emotional night in north London as players and fans united to honour the victims of the Paris attacks.
United fans will be hoping that Martial will be fit to feature when Louis van Gaal’s men return to Premier League action with a trip to Watford on Saturday lunchtime.
The Red Devils are currently fourth in the Premier League table and two points behind leaders Manchester City after 12 games.
