Gabriel Paulista issues Arsenal rallying cry ahead of Tottenham clash

Gabriel Paulista is looking forward to Arsenal's showdown with Tottenham Hotspur at Emirates Stadium on Sunday

Gabriel Paulista admits that derby clashes are always “complicated” as Arsenal prepare to host Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday.

Arsene Wenger’s men welcome their local rivals to Emirates Stadium looking to return to winning ways after the humiliation of their 5-1 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Gabriel will be hoping to feature after he played the full 90 minutes against Pep Guardiola’s men in midweek.

And the Brazilian-born defender admits that the lead-up to derby games is always special as Arsenal look to repeat their victory over Spurs in the League Cup third round this weekend.

Defender Gabriel told Arsenal Player: “What they tell me about the history and importance of derbies is that it’s a rivalry that is really big.

“It’s also about the history that Arsenal has of giving all it has in every match, of being determined.

“I think you enter the pitch differently in a derby, you prepare yourself during the week in a totally different way. You go in with your head thinking differently and everything is very different.

“You’re much more focused and the same happens with the rivals. That’s what makes it such a difficult, complicated game for both sides.”
