Gary Neville: Man United should forget about Cristiano Ronaldo and sign this man
Gary Neville says Manchester United should focus on trying to sign Gareth Bale rather than Cristiano Ronaldo
Gary Neville believes that Manchester United would be better off trying to sign Gareth Bale from Real Madrid rather than Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Red Devils have long been linked with a big-money move to bring Ronaldo back to the club he left for a world-record fee back in 2009.
Ronaldo has continuously left the door open for a potential return to Old Trafford by refusing to rule out a transfer back to the Premier League in the future.
United have also been heavily linked with a swoop for Bale, and are understood to have been in the running to sign the Wales international before he joined Real Madrid from Tottenham.
Now, former United defender Neville has stated his belief that the Red Devils should concentrate their efforts on trying to lure Bale back to the Premier League, rather than focus on Ronaldo.
Neville is quoted as saying in the Daily Star: “The idea of Cristiano coming back as his swansong, well it wouldn’t be the same for him as it was before.
“What he did before at United was, for two years, out of this world and it was a privilege to be part of it. But I would certainly prefer us to get Bale – and that’s no disrespect to Cristiano.”
United travel to Watford after the international break next Saturday.
