Gary Neville pays compliment to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp
Gary Neville recalls Borussia Dortmund's performance at The Etihad in 2012
Gary Neville has likened Liverpool’s performance at The Etihad to Jurgen Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund side in their pomp.
The Reds eased to an emphatic 4-1 victory over Manuel Pellegrini’s Manchester City outfit at The Etihad on Saturday night.
An Eliaquim Mangala own goal in the seventh minute was followed by goals from Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Martin Skrtel.
Neville was on co-commentary duty during the landslide victory at Eastlands last night, and the Manchester United legend was reminded of Dortmund’s 1-1 draw with City in the Champions League in 2012.
“The best performance I’ve seen from anyone in the past six or seven years was when Dortmund came here [to the Etihad],” Neville told Sky Sports.
“There are signs of that from Liverpool today.”
Liverpool eased into a 3-0 lead after Eliaquim Managala’s own goal and strikes from Brazilian duo Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino.
Sergio Aguero managed to get a goal back for City before Skrtel sealed three points for the visitors with nine minutes remaining.
The Reds are six points behind fourth-placed Arsenal ahead of the visit of Swansea City next weekend.
