Glenn Hoddle: Arsenal starting to see the old Mesut Ozil
The Spurs legend says Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil is producing some of his best Germany form
Glenn Hoddle believes Mesut Ozil is starting to reproduce his Germany performances in an Arsenal shirt.
The £42.5m signing scored the north London side’s opener in a 3-0 victory over Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
He has been magnificent this season. Becoming more of a goal-scoring threat is only going to add to his game. That is old Ozil of Germany
Ozil has been involved in 11 goals in his last nine games for the Gunners, and the Germany international has already made 11 assists in 12 Premier League games this season.
Former England and Tottenham playmaker Hoddle heaped praise on Arsenal’s club-record signing following his latest Champions League performance.
Hoddle told ITV Sport: “Since he’s been at Arsenal, we haven’t seen enough of him getting in the box.
“When he played in Germany, he was always getting in the box. At Arsenal, he’s wanted the ball to feet all the time.
“He has been magnificent this season. Becoming more of a goal-scoring threat is only going to add to his game. That is old Ozil of Germany.”
Ozil has scored one goal and has made 11 assists in 12 Premier League games for Arsene Wenger’s side this season.
The World Cup winner has netted twice in five Champions League games this term.
The German playmaker moved to the north London outfit in a club-record £42.5m deal from Real Madrid in August 2013.
