Harry Kane warns Tottenham Hotspur over Arsenal backlash
Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane expects Arsenal to respond to heavy Bayern Munich defeat
Harry Kane has warned Tottenham Hotspur to expect an Arsenal backlash in Sunday’s north London derby.
The Gunners suffered a humiliating 5-1 defeat by Bundesliga holders Bayern Munich in the Champions League at Allianz Arena on Wednesday night.
It was not a good night for them [against Bayern]. A lot has been said about that result and, as fellow players, you know they will come out firing to try and put things right
Tottenham, meanwhile, were 2-1 winners against Belgian side Anderlecht in the Europa League thanks to Mousa Dembele’s 87th-minute winner last night.
Kane broke the deadlock against the Belgian side to score his fifth goal in eight games in all competitions ahead of Sunday’s derby at The Emirates.
And the Tottenham talisman has warned his team-mates that the Gunners will want to make a statement following their heavy Champions League defeat.
“They took a bit of a hiding in midweek and they are going to want to put that right,” Kane told talkSPORT.
“We have come off two very good wins so we are going into the game on a high and hopefully we can finish the week off well.
“It is going to be a great battle and everyone is looking forward to it. We want to go there, set a high tempo and play well.
“It was not a good night for them [against Bayern]. A lot has been said about that result and, as fellow players, you know they will come out firing to try and put things right. So we know what to expect.”
Tottenham are unbeaten in 10 Premier League outings since a 1-0 defeat by Manchester United at Old Trafford on the opening day of the Premier League season.
The Gunners have already beaten Tottenham this season after a 2-1 victory in the League Cup third round at White Hart Lane.
