Harry Redknapp has urged Jose Mourinho to stand by his senior players and back them to reverse Chelsea’s ailing fortunes.

The Blues’ disastrous start to the new season continued on Saturday as Liverpool came from a goal down to claim a 3-1 win over the west London side at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho has made the bold decision to drop some of Chelsea’s key players in recent weeks, including the likes of Eden Hazard, Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic.

However, former Tottenham Hotspur boss Redknapp feels that Mourinho should stick by his senior players and is backing the west London side to turn around their poor form in the coming weeks.

Redknapp said on BT Sport: “I think he needs the better players back on [his] side if he can.

“He needs to go back to picking his best teams; he left people out recently [such as] Matic, Hazard. I think he needs to put his faith in them.

“People talk about playing young players, but Chelsea haven’t got the young players. I think they have got to get out of this situation with the experienced players.”

Chelsea host Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League on Wednesday night as they look to return to winning ways in Europe’s elite club competition.

Mourinho’s men then face a tricky trip to Stoke City in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
