Jamie Carragher: Chelsea and Man United should target Jamie Vardy
Jamie Carragher says Jamie Vardy is good enough to play for Chelsea or Manchester United
Jamie Carragher says Chelsea and Manchester United should target Premier League record-breaker Jamie Vardy.
The Leicester City striker broke Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Premier League record for scoring in consecutive games after Vardy netted in his 11th successive outing at King Power Stadium on Saturday evening.
You look at Manchester United today and they could do with Jamie Vardy. They could do with that energy, that pace and that aggression in attack. They are lacking that
Fittingly, Vardy broke the deadlock against Van Nistelrooy’s former club United before Bastian Schweinsteiger levelled on the stroke of half-time to secure a point for Louis van Gaal’s side at the Premier League leaders.
Defending champions Chelsea and the Red Devils have been linked with a move for the newly-capped England international ahead of the January transfer window next month.
Former Liverpool defender Carragher believes Vardy’s aggression and energy would reinvigorate Chelsea and United.
Carragher told Sky Sports: “It’s getting to the stage now where you watch Jamie Vardy and ask ‘is it just a fantastic stage he’s going to go through and is he going to come out of it?’
“You see reports this weekend of Chelsea getting linked with him. I think the top teams should be looking at this player.
“You look at Manchester United today and they could do with Jamie Vardy. They could do with that energy, that pace and that aggression in attack. They are lacking that.
“They are one of the biggest clubs in world football and pay huge fees for players, but they could do with Jamie Vardy – and not just Manchester United.”
Vardy has scored 14 goals in 14 Premier League games for Claudio Ranieri’s high-flying Leicester side this season.
The Foxes striker has netted 14 of Leicester’s 29 top-flight goals this term.
