Jamie Carragher runs rule over Tottenham starlet Dele Alli
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher says Tottenham starlet Dele Alli deserves place in England team
Jamie Carragher believes Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli deserves a place in the England team.
The Spurs starlet scored the north London side’s second goal in a 3-1 victory over Aston Villa at White Hart Lane on Monday night.
Alli has scored two goals in 10 Premier League appearances for Mauricio Pochettino’s men in his first season in the English top-flight.
Former Liverpool defender Carragher is impressed with the newly-fledged England international’s level-headed mentality.
“He’s getting goals. Last season, he had 16 for MK Dons,” Carragher told Sky Sports. “It’s the fact that he’s always on the move, and his composure as well.
“He doesn’t panic [for the goal], and he’s got to be under consideration for England because he’s playing for a top team in and around the Champions League. He has demonstrated his ability as well and there’s not many English players playing at that level. He’s going to be playing in big games, against top opposition.
“He’s very humble and he came across great [in the post-match interview], and that is a big part for young players now. There is a feeling that some get too carried away after a few games in the team, but he seems like a level-headed young lad.”
The 19-year-old has scored two goals and made one assist in 14 appearances in all competitions for the north London side this term.
The Spurs midfielder has also picked up five yellow cards for Pochettino’s men so far this season.
England starlet Alli completed a £5m move to Tottenham from League One side MK Dons in the summer transfer window.
The Spurs midfielder made his England debut against Estonia before he appeared in a 3-0 win at Lithuania this month.
