Jamie Carragher cheekily takes credit for Liverpool star’s goal
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher looks to take credit for Martin Skrtel's brilliant volley
Jamie Carragher wasn’t known for his goal-scoring exploits during a 16-year career at Liverpool.
In fact, the retired England international scored an underwhelming five goals in 737 games for the Merseyside outfit, scoring more times at the wrong end of the pitch.
Like Carragher, Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has a reputation as something of an own goal specialist after a number of mistakes during his seven-year Anfield career.
But the Slovakia international scored at the right end on Saturday evening as the 29-year-old fired a sumptuous volley past Joe Hart in a 4-1 win at Manchester City.
And cheekily, former Liverpool defender Carragher wasted no time attempting to secure credit for his former team-mate’s impressive but uncharacteristic strike.
I taught Skrtel that every day at Melwood!!

Liverpool eased into a 3-0 lead after Eliaquim Managala’s own goal and strikes from Brazilian duo Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino.
Sergio Aguero managed to get a goal back for City before Skrtel sealed three points for the visitors with nine minutes remaining.
